I am currently, and will be for a while ahead, working on finishing my phd thesis. At the same time I have a beautiful baby boy to look after and, well, time is not unlimited. Posting may be few and far apart until I finish, but if you're looking for picture uploads you can find more frequent contributions at FLICKR

And on an informative note Spotify have recently removed some of my favorite albums so some past links may not work anymore.. Boo and hiss. It is an annoyance that agreements with record labels and artists seem to be subject to random changes without information.

>:-(

For this reason I feel I should tell you that there are alternatives to Spotify, albeit being on more shaky legal ground and I have no idea if the artists get anything for being listened to. Check out grooveshark at www.grooveshark.com. It's free and it's commercial free. I just figured out how to share tracks from GS so I'll be starting to do that from now on when Spotify fails..

Take care

Little plastic news

Apparently, someone actually used to read me. So now I will struggle to come out of retirement. I don't fully remember what I used to write about and I think I sort of stopped since I felt I had nothing to say really. I still have that feeling a little bit, but maybe it's just me being lazy or out of practice. We'll see what happens with this..

What I can tell you though is that me and No.1 have started a photo-diary-blog-thingy, and that so far you can find it here:
Grötmyndigheten.

In the mean time I leave you with two attempts at HDR photos and one concert shot. Take care now. Ciao.

Oh, and I still am trying to get the layout the way I want it so it might change around some..

FOLLOW ME

If that's what you've done, welcome back, and sorry for URL-jumping these last few weeks. The grass, it turns out, is not greener. I've come to the conclusion that the blog-engines are not the best format, for me, to publish photographs so instead I put up a section on my website dedicated to that. You can find it here (www.peroskar.se/2008). Check it out. Check back in and see it unfold.
Maybe this means I'll rediscover blogging for it's most useful purpose, mindless egocentrical ramblings. Time will tell.

Have a nice evening.

New blog engine

GET INFORMED: I am probably leaving Blogger for blogg.se, mainly because of the image size restriction.

Tech Love

So, finally I got myself a TV. It arrived yesterday, and I had a techno-orgasm as I rearranged my stuff a bit, and connected all the wires: I L-O-V-E this shit! It's standing there, nice and flat, not to big, and certainly not to flashy, but it is harnessing in its bosom all that I hold dear (all inorgaincs anyway); its a TV, which I hate to admit I need; it's connected to my iBook so now I can watch stuff and edit photos on a huuuge screen; it's connected to my new-old playstation so I can, for the first time Ever, play on my OWN consol.
And along with it came a new external hard drive for some much needed spatial expantion. It is now housed along with the old drive, the modem and router, inside my IKEA watcha-ma-callit table. I feel so good since that means i got loads of cables and wires out of the way.

Aaaahhh...

Here it is..

Carrying the world on my shoulders

After a minor exile from the electronic world I am now back in front of a screen. Me, E and K went for a three day trekk along the High Coast trail to learn lessons about how much weight not to pack, how good food always tastes better on a secluded rock waterfront, and that finnish people laugh at you when you take a sauna for only twenty minutes..

We started at Gallsäter busstop and then headed east for the coast and to join the trail. Brazenly and stubbornly we headed all the way to Fjärdbotten the first day, which included a lot of whining towards the end. Especially since we carried so much of out non-freeze dried, non-trekking adapted food (cucumbers, beer, heads of lettuce etc,.) during that day. Originally these kind of houses were summer houses for farmers bringing their stock to graze but now it was restored to house trekkers like us. The nearby water well had a sulfurous tinge which made it smell and taste something like a cross between a matchstick and a fart. Being that we were all mildly dehydrated after a days walking, we had no choice but to gulp it down. Then there was just enough time to jump in the sea and swim out to where the last rays of sun danced across the surface.
Dinner was barbecued Halloumi cheese, sallad, and freshly pan-baked indian-inspired bread.

Day two began by sleeping til 10 (a total of 11 hours sleep..) after which we had a porridge breakfast and re-packed our bags. We stumbled along and I was painfully reminded ot the preceding day and my hips and shoulders were getting seriously chafed. Today was my food-day, so I took solace in the thought that my pack would only get lighter and lighter as we progressed. We reached a rocky point with a view of the horizon around three. The weather was grey. By a cliff wall we took a seat for lunch. Wraps with hoummus, sundried tomatoes, lettuce, peppers, and sour cream mixed with feta cheese. Lovely.
About half an hour later as we had started to head inland once again, the rain started. First as light summer rain, then as a heavy downpour. I wore my rain jacket for a while, but the walking made me so sweaty inside the coat I decided there was no point. Due to the bad weather we skipped climbing the Valkallen mountain and headed straight for Lövvik and shelter. And what an oasis it was. A clean, well-equipped kitchen, a three-bed berth for 150SEK and an adjoining sauna. Situated right by the sea shore. We dried up, took a sauna with a bath and then (after being smiled at by finnish people) went inside to prepare a lentil soup with dried mushrooms and chili.
The evening passed with a few more showers (rain..), some card games, a visit by a family of swans and a small stroll around Lövvik.
The last day came, and the backpacks were now lighter than air. Since we had a bus to catch we skipped another mountaing and headed toward the High Coast bridge and Hotel. At first there were a few showers, but toward midday the sun came out and we finally had a great lunch at the hotel on a sunny balcony with a view of the majestic bridge.
As a last part of our adventurous journey, we got to ride a racing bus in order to catch our connection in KRamfors. The original bus we were supposed to go on never showed, and so the next one had a very service minded driver who didn't charge us a penny, but instead raced ahead of his schedule in order to cut the connecting bus off in Kramfors. Success! We slowly rode home to Örnsköldsvik, trying to outsmart each others botanical knowledge.
Next up: Umeå quickstep, Birthday Party, Beach Volleyball, Nordingrå and finally Häggvik Dixie Jazz Festival.
Peace Y'all

Shooting pays off

In the words of Dr Nick;
Hi Everybody!
and also Dr Hubert Farnsworth;
Good News Everyone!
In due course of some random encounters and some luck, I will now have one of my photos printed on a CD back-cover! Pretty sweet. It's a debut CD by a Swedish Bluegrass band called The Hillfillies, and I had never heard them or heard of them until a guy from the Rockridge Brothers whom I shot during my visit to sthlm for a gig by my friend Lars Ekengren contacted me. He did the layout for their cover, and liked one of my photos so asked if they could use it. Naturally I replied in the affirmative.
The CD will be out soon, it's called Just Passing Through and can be bought from their website.

Weekend

I guess I should have things to write about regarding the weekend, but I'm not sure that I do.

Saturday was eventful. First I went to the 50th anniversary of the Norrlands Nations Lördagsfika, to perform my duties as Nation appointed photographer. And of course to munch on all sorts of delicious treats. It was a nice affair, particularly since it was outdoors and the weather was impeccable; sunny, blue skies and warm. I hung out there for a while, shooting and talking to my girl and some of my norrlands acquaintances. Pictures will be up soon.
Then I had just about enough time to go home and relax a while before going to participate in my Girls graduation ceremony in the prestigious Old University building. Although it was a parade of nurses in summer dresses, the whole ceremony was a bit of a drag. I sat in a back row, trying to get one or two stable shots of my girl but failing miserably. Anyway, she got her diploma, speeches were made and then we went on to the real party at the Girl's house. Good food, wine, presents (well, not for me, for Her) and nice people. So we spent a few hours there just blabbing and eating. And then suddenly it was late and we were both very tired.
-
Then sunday we took a small daytrip to Öregrund to see some friends. It was like entering another world, coming out to a cabin by the ocean. Even though we were only there a few hours we did have time for variuos (in-)activities such as sunbathing, swimming (1st for the year!), playing boule..
Then sunday evening I watched Transamerica with a friend. It was a great movie and I revealed my generally critical viewpoint by giving the greatest of compliments: "It didn't dissapoint me in any way". Usually, I tend to say things like "It was great, but...". No, transamerica may have shown a few butts but there were no buts. Simply a well-acted, well-written, well-filmed cute and funny story of the unusual kind.

Little Mr Sunshine

Jazz is the best
the very best thing to listen to when you want to get inexplicably and childishly happy. Listening now to Billie Holiday and it's all I can do not to smile uncontrollably.

Yesterday, or rather last night, I went to see a friend perform at a club. I was surprised, as one often is, to hear his voice singing. Someone who appears to be just like any other engineer, like any other mortal walking around, can suddenly be up on a stool with a guitar and sound like a Singer. And move you.
He was followed by a great hillbilly act which I could only follow for a few songs as I had to catch the train back to Uppsala.
Pictures from this night will be up sometime soon.

On the train there and back I started reading a new book (I am currently reading around 3-4 books, which is a problem since I keep a pace of about 20 pages a week...) and was struck by an urge to write. So I take this as a sure sign that the book is good. Well-written and promising so far.

Nuff said. this weekend I'm looking forward (no joke) to a Eurovision Song Contest Party. Somehow, a lightness has transpired through these past weeks. Is it the sun? The (relative) warmth of May? Am I - dare I say it - Happy?

the OVEN

This weekend we got a bar. The Kollektiv is shaping up. Donated by Alyss' friend, since it had been left by some previous tenant in the basement storage unit. It was heavy as a cow, but once it was in place there was this loud click. Not of something breaking, but of something really fitting in place. We reorganized some of the other stuff and soon our disordered living room had transformed into the Oven, a bar, a lounge, and a TV/gaming area. With the soon expected EXODUS of A's left furniture which take up a fair bit of floor space, we will add a dining area as well. The three seating areas will by surrounding the bar, which will make up the new hub, the new heart, of our little lives. I'll try and post some pictures of it soon.
And naturally, as soon as this is organized, a proper inauguration will take place at the Oven. We've even talked of getting a proper bar service going on a small scale. That is, investing a little money in getting wine and beer for the bar, and then selling it to ourselves and our friends when the need comes on.
